Back from my hiatus

And just in time too! Many exciting things have been happening in the world of politics. Well, if you consider having your fingernails ripped out with a pair of pliers one at a time exciting, then ya.

Sadly, Hillary was plucked in a similar fashion from the presidential race. Personally, I was a Hilldog fan. She did more for social reform than both McCain and Obama have done combined. Not to mention that under the Clinton administration unemployment rates were at historical lows and it was a time of prosperity. The delegates remembered those statistics during the primaries. That's much of the reason Hillary got as far as she did. So what do the republicans do? They recruit some skank from Alaska that nobody has heard of and put her on the ticket. She is only there to try and scoop up the undecided Hillary vote now that they're available. It was a clever ploy. But a ploy nonetheless.

It's ironic too, because the republican campaign during the primaries was focused on experience. They smeared Obama for being “dangerously unprepared” to be president. So what do they do? The republicans bring in Palin, a two year governor of Alaska and mayor of some little town for a couple years. I'm sure her greatest displays of political prowess during that time involved setting up anti abortion rallies and tickling the naughty spots on the local oil interests. Yes, she doesn't believe in abortions, even after rape. Palin has openly admitted to the commitment of overturning Roe v Wade. She'd set woman's rights back 100 years, given the opportunity.

Here's some fun quotes from an interview Palin did with NewsMax Magazine:

Speaking of energy, how much oil and gas does America really have?

“We have billions and billions of barrels of oil and trillions of feet of natural gas. We have so much potential from tapping our resources here in Alaska. And we can do this with minimum environmental impact.”

What is your take on global warming and how is it affecting our country?

“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”

Clearly she doesn't believe humans have anything to do with global warming. And why would she? She already has plans to enrich her friends in Alaska.

One thing both Palin and McCain do believe in is creationism. But believing in creationism means dismissing 100s of years of scientific evidence. They openly do not believe in evolution. They also think the earth is only like 5000 years old and we humans used to ride around on dinosaurs like the Flintstones. That alone disqualifies them from being capable of critical thought. Evidently radiometric dating is less believable than some dude walking on water.

McCain's facade is transparent. He tries to distance himself from Bush and the GOP, yet he votes along with Bush 90-95% of the time. He's even bragged that if he wins the presidency, it will be a 3rd Bush term. McCain's economic plan is just going to involve further corporate imperialism (to enrich his friends) in Iraq and neighboring countries. He's a Bush lackey.

Face it. Republicans are only good at winning elections. They masquerade about as reformers and have the ability to talk a little smack and smear the other guy. I wouldn't trust McCain to hook up a DVD player, much less run the country. He graduated at the bottom of his class (like 885th out 890) in the US Naval Academy and received no further education. No wonder the dude doesn't believe in radiometric dating. He's not qualified to be president. Obama has a B.S. in Political Science from Columbia University and a degree in Law from Harvard. I guess you need a low IQ to win the republican nomination.

Meanwhile two terms of Bush drove our economy into the shitter and now home foreclosures are at record highs. Our socioeconomic gaps are wider now than they were during the great depression. Not to mention we're dumping 10 billion dollars a month on a war we cannot win. Do you really think that the republican party can clean up the mess they helped create??
